Project Proposal_Sense of Place_Place-Making

Project Proposal

The theme for my project will be branding and logo designs. I have chosen to focus on these two themes because I have a high interest in branding and logo designs. The research for this will focus on the place of ‘Cornwall’, my home place. I will research ‘Cornwall’ and incorporate this within my work. I have chosen Cornwall to be my sense of place because I am very familiar with this place. So, to go further with this I am going to compare Cornwall to say a place like London as I am not familiar with this place. This would then further my research. My strengths will hopefully be working on the computers; so Photoshop, In Design and Illustrator. But I do not want to stick to just using these three, I want to broaden my skills and try new things and see if they work better. My intention is to re-brand or create a logo for a company, restaurant or brand. With this in mind after I have created say a new logo I could then take this and create my own brand and show the reasons behind my creation. The need for this visual communication is to make a logo or develop a company to improve it. The client for this work will be the company or restaurant that I am working with. I would like the target audience to be male and female and of an age of 18+. This is because I would like to get feedback form all types of people and see if my logo, or re-branding fits the purpose of the place. So with this I am going to look into restaurants to start with in the area of Cornwall and look at the logo and branding of a few places. To further this, I am going to compare some places with places in a big city so maybe London and see if there is a difference and the identify the difference.

I have thought about what I would like my outcome to be and I have a few ideas of what I am hoping to achieve. My aim is to create a new logo or re-brand a place. But, I have been looking into this and I am thinking about doing a short experiment, where I look at a place that needs a logo for it, or needs a new logo that will fit the place. I am going to look at 'The Borough Arms' as I am familiar with this place as I have worked there before. Also, I know that this restaurant hasn't actually got a logo for the place, so it will be good to create one.

I will need to go down to Cornwall often to get some primary research to back up my project. Also, I would like to research into a lot of research on different restaurants types and compare the differences and identify them. This would then give me a good understanding on what I would like to do for my own work. For this a lot of research could benefit me a lot so I would like to include this. With research, I am going to analyse a lot of work to get a clear understanding on what is needed. I would show my analysis in my sketchbook clearly so you can see what is going on. A lot of practical work is needed to complete this work and make it a success. I have the technical skills to be able to complete this task but however I do not want to just use the skills that I have already I would like to use different techniques to be able to improve my work and hopefully achieve a higher grade. I would like to try and include story boards throughout this project to help give me some guidance on what I need to do. Also, I have never used these so it’ll give me a good chance on using these within my work.

My timetable for this work would be 4 weeks to create my main composition for this work. I would like to include a few days a week to add in some research and then throughout this project I would like to make trips down to Cornwall to get some key primary research for my sketchbook. I would like to learn a bit more about using Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. I have a good knowledge on how to use these but I would like to gain more experience on using them to help improve my work. I would like to gain a good strong body of work to link in with my starting point and I would like to gain a high grade to go with this work.

For the final,
