Writing Styles

Writing Assessment

I have wrote many different assessments throughout my GCSE's and my A levels. If someone asked me how confident I am at writing I would give a 5. This is because, i'm not the strongest writer but however I will write when I am needed to. Also it gives me more ideas when I write about something. For example, if I was doing some artist research, writing about them would then give me more and different ideas for my productive work.

Your Assessment:

  • Research skills
  • Grammar and Punctuation
  • Note Taking
  • Right Style
  • Referencing
  • Structure
These are the main techniques that I would need to think about when it comes to writing assessments but however these are not in order. The ordered was of writing for me are:
  • Annotate the Brief
Annotating the brief is very important. Getting to know what the brief/question is asking you is very crucial as this is the first starting point of your work so it has to be done correctly.
  • Research
Researching again is very important. Researching the most important ideas is a good way to start your work. But however, not just on one topic. Look into many different ideas so that you can get a good idea on different themes/topics to talk about.
  • Notes
Make notes about everything. even if it isn't relevant make notes on it as it could become useful as you progress.
  • Plans
Planning is a big step for me when I write. I like to have a good plan on what I am doing. So doing a mindmap is a very good idea and it works. Write down the key things that you want to write about and then go from each idea and write down ideas about each topic you want to talk about.
  • Checking
Checking is a good way to see what you have written already and to see if it makes sense. Also by doing this you can see if you've missed anything out and you could then also add things in to improve what has been written already.
  • Referencing
Referencing is a very big part of any essay. This is because if it isn't referenced properly then it could make your essay fail as this could be plagiarism. The referencing way I am going to use is the APA6 referencing as this is the style that the University would like to see.

Structure

This is the way that I am going to lay out my Essay.
  1. Essay Title
  2. Introduction Paragraph
  3. Point 1
  4. Point 2
  5. Point 3
  6. Point X etc.
  7. Conclusion
Avoiding Techniques

Avoid: didn't, hasn't, it's. Use did not, has not and it is.
Avoid: I, me, my.
