After Effects Workshop 4

Throughout the year, I have been doing the after effects workshop with Sara. These workshops are amazing and really helps me to get a clear understanding of how to use after effects better. I’ve not really been that familiar with it, but I feel much more comfortable now.

This workshop we had to bring in a quote or phrase hand drawn on a A4 piece of paper. Below is the piece of work that I had scanned onto the computer ready to be used on after effects. First of all, we had to put the scanned image on a Photoshop document. Next was to separate each word onto a different layer (doesn’t matter where each word is placed as this will be arranged in After Effects). My knowledge of Photoshop was good so I knew how to do this comfortably. Next was to create an After Effects document ready to start making the clip. From previous workshops I knew how to set up a document correctly. I added a background of a sky at night because I think this would give my work a good effect. Next was to add in each layer and make it into a 3D layer so that we can travel through the words as you can see in the clip. I then had to add a camera into the work. I had never done this before, so with Sara’s help I managed to do this. The camera on After Effects is similar to any SLR camera which I was capable of using. The camera allowed the work to move through each word. So for my work I had each word behind each other so when the camera moved through it would show each word as its travelling through. I am very happy with the work that I have produced here. It has allowed me to gain more and more knowledge on After Effects. I feel more confident after each workshop.
